The Pantheon & Heavens

The mythos pantheon is a large and complicated one. During Lovecraft’s lifetime, his creations and those of his colleagues were interwoven and often not clearly defined. Since then, other generations of writers have continued to build on and dissect what were in many cases, a single name or a very brief mention. Opinions differ on the placement of some. Authors have tried to correct or alter many of the original works in order to make a more consistent hierarchy of the Gods.

The Alternate Solar System, according to Lovecraft, is obviously one teaming with danger and horror. During his career, science knew very little about the other planets. In a letter, Lovecraft suggested that the newly discovered Pluto (1930) must be the same as his Yuggoth. Like Burroughs, Lovecraft imagined these worlds full of life and culture. The strange aeons of space proved an infinite backdrop that underscored the insignificance of humanity, one of his most common themes.
